About the Event
It is a pilgrimage to one of the planet's last great snow sanctuaries. Our expedition targets the legendary Mamay zone, a mythical name among global ski tourers for its endless, untouched glades and deep, stable snowpack. Located in the remote East Sayan Mountains of Siberia, Mamay is not a resort, but a vast, roadless wilderness accessible only by specialist transport. Our journey begins in Irkutsk before venturing deep into the taiga. For seven full days, we will be self-sufficient explorers, establishing a backcountry base camp from which we will conduct daily tours through a mesmerising landscape of perfectly spaced birch and pine forests, open bowls, and dramatic ridgelines. This is a pure, immersive ski touring experience, defined by absolute silence, boundless terrain, and the profound feeling of skiing at the edge of the world.
Itinerary
Day 1
Day 1
Arrival and transfer to Mamay base camp
We'll meet you at Irkutsk International Airport and transfer by road toward the mountains, before switching to snowmobiles for the final push deep into the Mamay wilderness. Upon arrival, you'll settle into the remote base camp—your home for the week, surrounded by the snow-laden peaks of the Khamar-Daban range. Take time to unpack and acclimatise before an evening briefing on the days ahead.
Day 2-7
Day 2-7
Six full days of guided ski touring
Each day brings a new sector to explore—north-facing glades with cold powder, sunny south slopes for softer turns, or high ridges with panoramic views. Our guides will select the day's objectives based on group ability, snow conditions, and weather, ensuring we make the most of the vast terrain on offer. With runs of 600–800 vertical metres through forests, pillows, and open alpine bowls, every descent feels fresh and untracked. Evenings are spent in the warmth of the base camp, sharing stories over hearty Siberian meals and a traditional banya.
Day 8
Day 8
Final ski tour and departure
We'll squeeze in one last morning ski tour before packing up and heading out by snowmobile, then transferring by road back to Irkutsk. The journey concludes with a farewell dinner and overnight in the city, with late evening or next morning departures from Irkutsk Airport. You'll leave with memories of deep powder, vast wilderness, and the quiet thrill of having skied one of Siberia's most remote backcountry corners.
