Accessibility Statement

This statement was last updated on 16 January 2026

At SnowMonkeys, we are passionately committed to providing exceptional backcountry ski adventures in the world's most remote mountains. This commitment extends to ensuring digital accessibility for people of all abilities. We strive to make our website, www.snowmonkeys.co.nz , accessible and usable for everyone, regardless of technology or ability, and we are actively working to increase the accessibility and usability of our online presence.

We believe in the principle of equitable access to information and the transformative power of the mountains for all.

Our Commitment & Conformance Status

We aim to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA. These guidelines explain how to make web content more accessible for people with disabilities and more user-friendly for everyone.

Our website is in the process of being assessed for conformance with these standards. We view accessibility as an ongoing effort and are continuously working to improve the user experience for everyone by applying the relevant accessibility standards.

Current Efforts Include:

  • Using accessibility checkers and conducting manual audits to identify and fix barriers.

  • Training our team on the importance of web accessibility and inclusive design principles.

  • Working with our web developers to implement best practices in coding and design from the ground up.

Measures to Support Accessibility

SnowMonkeys takes the following measures to ensure accessibility:

  • Inclusive Design: Accessibility is considered a key component of our web design and development process.

  • Testing: We employ a combination of automated testing tools and manual testing (including keyboard-only navigation and screen reader testing) to evaluate our site.

  • Feedback Loop: We welcome feedback from users on their experience, which we use to prioritise fixes and improvements.

  • Formal Assurance: We have assigned an internal accessibility officer to oversee and champion these efforts.

Compatibility with Browsers and Assistive Technology

Our website is designed to be compatible with the latest versions of major desktop and mobile browsers (Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Edge). We aim for compatibility with current screen readers and other assistive technologies.

Please note that our site may link to third-party content or platforms (e.g., booking engines, payment gateways) that are not fully under our control. We cannot guarantee the accessibility of these external sites but encourage their providers to follow inclusive practices.

Technical Specifications & Known Limitations

Despite our best efforts, some areas of our website may have partial accessibility limitations. We are aware of the following areas and are actively working to improve them:

  • Complex Imagery & Maps: Some historical ski touring maps and complex infographics may not have full text alternatives yet. We are working to provide detailed descriptive summaries.

  • Third-Party Video Content: Embedded videos from platforms like Vimeo or YouTube may not have fully accurate closed captions or transcripts in all cases.

  • Dynamic Trip Itinerary Widgets: Interactive elements showing daily tour details may have varying keyboard navigation support.

  • Legacy PDF Documents: Older trip brochures or informational PDFs may not be fully tagged for screen readers. New documents are created with accessibility in mind.

We continuously review our site to identify and correct these issues.

Assessment Approach

SnowMonkeys assesses the accessibility of its website through the following methods:

  • Self-Evaluation: Our team conducts periodic internal reviews.

  • External Evaluation: We engage with accessibility consultants and the disabled community for expert feedback.

  • User Testing: We welcome and act upon direct feedback from our users (see below).
